Background

Several organizations using OpenEAI methods and technology also have a need to integraiton with system using the HL7 standards for integration of healthcare systems.  For example, Emory University and Emory Healthcare have requirements to integrate clinical and research systems.  SAINS would like to integrate business systems with healthcare information systems.  The goal of this collaboration is to develop a set of sample integrations demonstrating interoperability between applications using HL7 and applications using common service oriented architectures (SOA) for enterprise application integration (EAI).

Specifically, the collaboration team is working to develop sample integrations between application in the OpenEAI Sample Enterprise and myCare2x, an open source soulution for the healthcare industry.  These integrations will be representative of the types of integration that SAINS expects to see between myCare2x and other application in their deployments at client sites.

Presently the collaboration team is defining the integration use cases it wishes to implement.  Links to the proposed integrations and use cases are listed below.  Please feel free to review existing use cases, comment on them, and add new proposed integrations and use cases.

Emory University and Emory Healthcare are working on several ESB integrations that are triggered by HL7 messages or that produce HL7 message. To that end, Emory has developed some basic HL7 relaying and transformation infrastructure, which is available here.
